FiftyForward members dance the night away at Older Americans Month Celebration
Our FiftyForward members enjoyed a night of dinner, drinks, and dancing! We concluded our monthlong celebration of Older Americans Month with a dinner at FiftyForward Martin Center on May 18.
The evening started with guests getting their photo taken and then a cocktail hour. Before a delicious buffet-style chicken dinner. Following the meal, Adam played classics from the 50’s and 60’s. Dressy attire was encouraged and our members were dressed to the nines.
The event was a way of saying thank you to our members for their contributions to their community.

Award-winning journalist Joan Lunden brought her sense of humor and unique perspective on life and aging to a recent breakfast at Geodis Park in Nashville, hosted by FiftyForward. The event was the kick-off for FiftyForward’s celebration and recognition of Older Americans Month, the awareness month that began in May 1963 to honor the contributions of older Americans in our lives.

FiftyForward kicked off National Volunteer Month with a special visitor, AmeriCorps CEO Michael Smith. On Monday, Smith stopped by FiftyForward Knowles Senior Center where he met with FiftyForward CEO Sallie Hussey and FiftyForward Volunteer Engagement Director Robin Johnson as well as other staff members. One of the highlights of his visit was a roundtable discussion with AmeriCorps Senior volunteers serving as Foster Grandparents.

Last week, more than 100 guests were present as the Whistlestop fictional train visited “The Big Apple” for a fundraiser featuring the food and music of New York City to benefit older adults served through FiftyForward Madison Station. Emceed by Lelan Statom, NewsChannel 5 meteorologist and co-host of Talk of the Town, attendees were welcomed by Kelly McCambridge, FiftyForward Madison Station’s new center director, as they supported the work FiftyForward does in the community.
